Voices of our Food

What stories would our fruits and vegetables tell if we could listen to them? Born out the fascination for the many ways in which the natural world communicates, this project intends to immerse us in the skin of our leafy friends. Nowadays we have developed technologies that musicalize the electrical variations from trees and plants, exploring the areas of bioacoustics and the electric potential in biological matter to bring closer the voices and sounds that escape our ears. Questioning the ready-made categories of human & non-human, the conceptual framework of this project explores Rosa Braidotti's notion of Companion Species to emphasize the species’ interdependence in this planet, the way in which the networks of communication stretch beyond our understanding, and how, through reconceptualization of the subject-instrument-object relationship, one can bridge the Great Divides.
